Hah. Freelance. Haha… Hah.
I love how cocky I get when I’m on a gig, and how quickly that changes... when the books run dry.
It’s like free drugs.
The legal ones, of course.
This life is a struggle. And if struggle is what defines us, consider me well-defined.
But truly, we’re staring down massive shifts in how work will be defined.
AI isn’t doing DaVinci-level creative yet, but CEOs are clinging to that hope like driftwood while the rest of us dry out in job forums.
It’s a good time - as always - to look in the mirror and ask:
Who’s staring back?
What kind of life do you want to lead?
What color is your parachute?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
Job security is a scam.
So you’d better be working somewhere you actually care about.
Find the people who make you feel seen. Make you feel sane
See what they’re up to.
See if they need help.
And if the money’s not there yet, fine.
Be there when it comes.
I hear you:
“I don’t have time for volunteering, I’m looking for work!”
Really?
Eight hours a day?
Five days a week?
There aren’t enough listings for that unless you’re spray-and-praying.
And if that’s your approach, let’s talk: because that’s exactly where AI automation can do a lot of heavy lifting.
So yeah, I just solved your problem.
Now go find your people.
Find your people because it calms the nerves when the free time gets in your head.
Job hunting, solopreneuring, freelancing: they all get lonely.
I’m out here taking coffees, hitting local events, researching my options.
Still applying for the right roles.
Even the ones that make you click the wavy lines like you’re the smartest rat in the maze. (IYKYK.)
But I’ve learned not to count on it.
Count on the people who make you feel sane.
Then when your books run dry, you’re still a cool guy.
